HBA Judicial Preference Poll Due by October 5

The deadline to return your 2012 HBA Judicial Preference Poll is 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 5, 2012. Please exercise your right to indicate the candidates of your choice. More information on candidates who appear on the poll is available through a link on the HBA website, www.hba.org. The Judicial Preference Poll is not an endorsement of any candidate. Habitat Home Dedication, October 6

The HBA's 15th Habitat for Humanity Home will be dedicated on Saturday, October 6 at 9:30 a.m. in the Milby Park neighborhood, located in zip code 77078. Tickets On Sale Now - 63rd Harvest Party, November 12

The 2012 Harvest Party has been set for Monday, November 12, from 7:00-10:00 p.m. at River Oaks Country Club. 100% of net proceeds raised for the Harvest Party directly benefit pro bono efforts in our community through the Houston Bar Foundation. IDEA Program Needs Attorneys and Medical Professional Volunteers, October 18

Medical professional volunteers are needed on Thursday, October 18, 2012 from 9:00 a.m.- 10:00 a.m. and from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. for the IDEA program, a partnership between the HBA and the Harris County medical community to educate 5th grade students about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. Need Extra Space in Your Closet? Donate Warm Clothing, October 8-12

The HBA Campaign for the Homeless Committee is sponsoring its annual clothing drive October 8-12. The drive collects gently-used coats, sweaters and other clothing items that will be distributed to Houston's homeless shelters. The HBA is also partnering with Dress for Success Houston to collect interview-appropriate suits and black handbags. Items may be delivered to the HBA office or the building's loading dock between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, from October 8-12. Lunch & Learn CLE Series on October 10

The HBA/CLE Committee invites HBA members to participate in one of the HBA's newest CLE offerings, Lunch & Learn. There is no charge to attend and members may bring a bag lunch or purchase pizza for $5. Click here for more information on the program. The program will be at noon on Wednesday, October 10, with Murray Newman, The Law Offices of Murray Newman, presenting "Criminal Appointments: How Can I Get on the List?" Lawyers Against Waste Committee Fall Event, October 13

The HBA Lawyers Against Waste Committee will host a Fall Clean Up at the Dawson-Lunnon Cemetery, a historically African-American cemetery located in Houston's East End, on Saturday, October 13 from 9:00 a.m. until noon. The cemetery is located at 5737 Kemp (77023), off Polk Street across from the Metro Station near the Gus Wortham Golf Course. Volunteers will mow, weed, clean debris from the site and plant trees. Chief Justice John Roberts to Speak at Rice Centennial Lecture Series, October 17

To celebrate Rice's 100-year anniversary, friends and community members are invited to join the university for the Centennial Lecture Series on Wednesday, October 17 at 3 p.m. at the Tudor Fieldhouse at Rice University.
