"Crimes Against Humanity" Topic of Law & the Media Program on February 2
The HBA's 27th Law & the Media program will examine "Crimes Against Humanity: Science, Smugglers and Survivors." This year's two-theme, two-panel seminar includes journalists, attorneys and newsmakers at the intersection of two of Houston's most challenging legal and societal issues: forensic science and exoneration controversies and the epidemic of human trafficking. The program will be held at South Texas College of Law, 1303 San Jacinto, from 9:00 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. Attorneys who pre-register pay $50 for 3.0 hours CLE credit, including 1.0 hour ethics credit. Members of the media, law students and journalism students can attend at no cost.

Volunteers Still Needed for Arboretum Tree Planting
If you enjoyed spending a few hours at the beautiful Houston Arboretum and Nature Center on Saturday as part of the HBA's project to plant 1,100 trees, or if you were not able to make the January 26 planting, we still need you! There are more trees to plant and we are looking for additional volunteers to plant this Saturday, February 2, at the Arboretum, 4501 Woodway Drive. There are two shifts – 9:00 a.m. until Noon or 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. To volunteer, please download the waivers

Consumer Pro Bono Under the Bankruptcy Code - Free HVL Seminar, Feb. 8
Houston Volunteer Lawyers is sponsoring a free bankruptcy seminar for attendees who agree to take one chapter 7 case. "Consumer Pro Bono Under the Bankruptcy Code" will be held on Friday, February 8, from 8:30 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. at the Jury Assembly Room, U.S. Courthouse, 515 Rusk Ave., Houston, 77002 and has been approved for 4.0 hours MCLE, including 1.0 hour ethics credit. Harris County Law Library Open House, Feb. 13
The Harris County Law Library will have an open house on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 from 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. The library is located at 1019 Congress. All attorneys and members of the judiciary are invited to attend.
