Return Judicial Qualification Questionnaire by February 5
The deadline to
return your HBA Judicial Candidate Qualification Questionnaire is 5:00 p.m. on
Friday, February 5, 2010. The questionnaire must be in the HBA office, 1001
Fannin, Suite 1300, Houston, Texas 77002 by the deadline in order to be
counted.
Habitat Fund Drive Extended to February 18
The
HBA's Habitat for Humanity Fund Drive has been extended through February 18, with the goal of raising $70,000 to construct its 13th
Habitat home this spring. Please consider a donation. Donations can be made online at
www.houstonhabitat.org.

FREE All Day
Ethics - February 6
The
HBA's Free All Day Ethics Institute will be held on
Saturday, February 6 from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. in the
Harris County Jury Assembly Room, 1019 Congress Plaza. The
institute includes 6.5 hours ethics credit and is free for
HBA members and $25 for non-HBA members. No RSVP is
necessary to attend.

Donations
Accepted to Haitian Relief Fund Through February 12
The Houston Bar
Association and the Houston Bar Foundation have established
a Haitian Relief Fund to accept donations from the Legal
Community for the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund,
targeted for assistance to earthquake victims in Haiti.
Tax-deductible donations in any amount will be accepted
through Friday, February 12, 2010. Make checks payable to
the Houston Bar Foundation and mail to the Houston Bar
Foundation, 1001 Fannin, Suite 1300, Houston, TX 77002.
HBA Wills & Probate Institute February 12 and 19
The 2010 HBA Wills & Probate Institute will be held on Friday, February 12 and 19 from 12:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
in the Harris County Jury Assembly Room. You may register for one day or both. Pre-Registration must be received
at the HBA office no later than noon on Wednesday, February 10th.

Courts to Celebrate Black History Month February 12
The HBA will join the Harris County District
Courts in a celebration of Black History Month
on Friday, February 12, 2010 from 1:30 - 3:30
p.m. in the Ceremonial Courtroom on the 17th
floor of the Civil Courthouse, 201 Caroline. The
program will include an exhibition of case files
relating to slave trade, Reconstruction, and the
first generation of free African-Americans in
Harris County. There will also be short comments
by distinguished jurists and historians on
several of the cases. The event is open to the
public.

Lawyers Luncheon February 17
The Senior Lawyers Forum will hold its fourth Luncheon on
Wednesday, February 17, 2010. Meet and Greet will start at 11:30 a.m.; the Luncheon will begin at Noon and the presentation
will begin at 12:30 p.m. at Maggiano's, 2019 Post Oak Blvd.
Houston Dynamo President and General Manager, Oliver Luck,
will present "Professional Soccer in Houston: An Overnight
Sensation - 15 Years in the Making." Please send the

Ad Litem Institute has been rescheduled for Thursday,

HBA's 25th Annual John J. Eikenburg Law
Week Fun Run March 27
The HBA's 25th Annual John J. Eikenburg Law Week Fun Run will be
held on Saturday, March 27 at Sam Houston Park, 1100 Bagby, Downtown Houston. This year marks the 25th
Anniversary of the Fun Run. Please visit the Fun Run website,
www.lawweekfunrun.com, to register and learn more about special events planned for this exciting anniversary! Over the past 24 years, the
event has raised more than $815,000 for The Center, which makes independent lives possible for people
with developmental disabilities. The event features an 8K run, a one-mile non-competitive children's
run, a non-competitive one-mile family walk, and a wheelchair division in the 8K. The 8K race is an
official spring series race of the Houston Area Road Runners Association, and is a sanctioned
U.S.A. Track and Field event
Bench Bar Pro Bono Award Deadline is March 1

are being accepted through March 1 for the
second annual Harris County Bench Bar Pro Bono
Awards, sponsored by the Harris County judiciary
in conjunction with the HBA, to recognize and
encourage lawyers to volunteer direct legal
services for low-income residents. For
