Night Court Twenty March 4
Join
us on Thursday, March 4 as the
Night Court project turns 20. The pre-show cash bar
reception starts at 6:30 p.m.; the performance starts at 7:30 p.m. The one-night-only event will
compile the best of the best from the past two decades of
original shows staged by everyone’s favorite all-lawyer
theatre company. Featuring both live performances and video
taped highlights, “Night Court Twenty” will include special
appearances by past performers, a sneak preview of coming
attractions and, like any Night Court show, plenty of
surprises. Tickets are $20 and available through the Hobby

HBA's 25th Annual John J. Eikenburg Law
Week Fun Run March 27
The HBA's 25th Annual John J. Eikenburg Law Week Fun Run will be
held on Saturday, March 27 at Sam Houston Park, 1100 Bagby, Downtown Houston. This year marks the 25th
Anniversary of the Fun Run. Please visit the Fun Run website,
www.lawweekfunrun.com, to register and learn more about special events planned for this exciting anniversary! Over the past 24 years, the
event has raised more than $815,000 for The Center, which makes independent lives possible for people
with developmental disabilities. The event features an 8K run, a one-mile non-competitive children's
run, a non-competitive one-mile family walk, and a wheelchair division in the 8K.

Law Day Poster and Essay Contest Open to K-12 Students, Entries Due March
5
In recognition of Law Day, the HBA is sponsoring a Poster and Essay
Contest.
There has also been a new team contest added for secondary
special education students. The contests allow students to recognize
the importance of law in our society. The theme for this year is
“Law in the 21st Century: Enduring Traditions, Emerging Challenges.”
All posters and essays should represent the students'
interpretations of this theme.

Tax-a-Thon
The HBA’s Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program will host a
special “Tax-A-Thon” call-in advice program on Tuesday,
March 9, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Houston
Bar Association office. Volunteer attorneys who are
knowledgeable in tax law are needed for two-hour shifts from
4:45 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. or from 6:45 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. If you

Bench Bar Pro Bono Awards Deadline March 12
Nominations are now being accepted for the second annual Harris County Bench Bar Pro Bono Awards. The awards are sponsored by the Harris County judiciary, in conjunction with the Houston Bar Association, to recognize outstanding pro bono service and to encourage lawyers to volunteer direct legal services for low-income residents. A committee of Harris County judges and attorneys will select the award recipients. The awards will be presented by the judiciary in the spring at a special luncheon at the Civil Courthouse. Attorneys, firms and corporate legal departments become eligible through a self-nomination process or they may be nominated by another individual or firm. The nomination deadline is March 12, 2010.

County Civil Judges
Training March 12
There will be a training program for attorneys willing to provide pro bono services in eviction appeals on March 12, from 8:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. in the courtroom of Judge Jacqueline Lucci Smith, County Civil Court at Law Number 2, 201 Caroline, 5th Floor. There is no charge to attend the program and it will provide 1.5 hours of MCLE credit, including .75 hours of ethics credit. Judge Lucci Smith will moderate, and Judge Roberta Lloyd, Judge Jack Cagle and Judge Linda Storey also will be in attendance.

Volunteers
Needed to Build Habitat Homes
The HBA Habitat for Humanity Committee has met its financial goal and is now
recruiting volunteers to build its 13th Habitat home.
Construction dates have not been set yet but it is anticipated that the house will be built on four consecutive Saturdays this spring. Volunteers will work from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and are needed
for framing, roofing, siding and exterior finishing. If you

HBAA Spring Egg Hunt March 27
The Houston Bar Association Auxiliary will hold its annual Spring Egg Hunt for
children on Saturday, March 27, 2010, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at the
home of Ginni and Richard Mithoff, 2930 Lazy Lane. Bring your children,
grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends, as well as your own baskets.
Enjoy refreshments, make crafts and win prizes. The hunt starts at 10:30,
rain or shine.
