Law Day Activities
Law Day is celebrating its 50th anniversary, and the HBA has planned a number of activities to commemorate this milestone, while focusing on education and community outreach. The American Bar Association's 2008 Law Day theme is “The Rule of Law: Foundation for Communities of Opportunity and Equity.”

Java with the Judges on April 28 will give the judiciary, courthouse personnel and court practitioners the opportunity to have coffee and donuts, network and find out more about Law Day. Java with the Judges, sponsored by the Houston Lawyer Referral Service and the HBA Litigation Section, will be held from 8:00 - 9:00 a.m. in the Criminal Justice Center, 7th floor; Civil Courthouse, 8th floor; Family Law Center, lobby; Appellate Courts at 1307 San Jacinto, 9th floor; Municipal Courts, 2nd floor; and Federal Courthouse, Judge Ellison’s courtroom on the 3rd floor. All members are invited to attend at one or more of the locations.

The Law Day Luncheon, sponsored by the Houston Young Lawyers Association, will feature as keynote speaker Randy Burton, founder and president of Justice for Children and attorney at Burleson Cooke, LLP. HYLA will present the Woodrow Seals Outstanding Young Lawyer of Houston Award, the HYLA Outstanding Mentor Award, and the Liberty Bell Award to a non-attorney for outstanding community service. The luncheon is scheduled for Friday, May 2, beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the Four Seasons Hotel. Tickets are $50 for individual tickets or $500 for a table of nine, plus one judge. To purchase tickets, contact Elinore T. Tecson at elinore.tecson@cityofhouston.net; Teshia Judkins at teshia.judkins@haynesboone.com; or Tina Koch at tkoch@porterhedges.com.
