2010 Fall Harvest Party

The 2010 Fall Harvest Party has been set for Monday, November 15, 2010 from 7:00-10:00 p.m. at River Oaks Country Club. The Harvest Party is the main annual fundraising event for the Houston Bar Foundation, and this year's underwriting goal has been set at $525,000. Judicial Investiture 
The Hon. Sheri Y. Dean will be sworn in as judge of the 309th District Court at noon on Wednesday, September 15, 2010, in the Ceremonial Courtroom at the Civil Courthouse, 201 Caroline, 17th Floor. A reception will follow in the conference suite across the hall. All judges, attorneys and colleagues are invited to attend.

Portrait Unveilings 
Portraits of the Hon. Alice Oliver-Parrott and the late Hon. Tom F. Coleman, both of whom served as judge of the 151st District Court and as Chief Justice of the First Court of Appeals, will be unveiled in a ceremony at noon Friday, September 17, 2010 in the 151st District Courtroom in the Civil Courts Building, 201 Caroline. All attorneys, judges and friends are invited to attend.

Senior Lawyers Luncheon September 22

Dean Donald Guter of South Texas College of Law will be the featured speaker at the first 2010-2011 quarterly luncheon of the HBA Senior Lawyers Forum on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at The Briar Club, 2603 Timmons Lane, Houston, Texas 77027. Dean Guter, who also is a Rear Admiral, Judge Advocate General Corps, U.S. Navy (Ret.), will discuss “Legal Assistance for Veterans – How It’s Changed Since 9/11.” The cost is $35 per person. Tutors Needed for B.C. Elmore Middle School
The HBA’s Adopt-A-School Committee is seeking volunteers to tutor students in math and reading at the HBA’s adopted school, B.C. Elmore Middle School in the North Forest ISD. Tutoring sessions are held on Wednesdays in the fall and spring. The time commitment for volunteers is approximately two hours, including drive time from downtown. The school is located at 8200 Tate (77028). Fall Clothing Drive October 11-15

The HBF/HBA Fall Coat and Warm Clothing Drive is set for October 11-15, 2010, benefiting homeless Houstonians living in local shelters and agencies that serve the homeless. The drive collects gently-used coats, jackets, sweaters, blankets and articles of clothing for adults and children of all ages. Lawyers Against Waste Fall Cleanup October 16

The HBA Lawyers Against Waste Committee will host an “Adopt A Cemetery” project on Saturday, October 16, 2010, from 8:00 a.m. until noon. Volunteers will mow, weed and clean debris from the historic College Memorial Park Cemetery, located at 3600 W. Dallas Avenue, 77019. Volunteers also will help the cemetery check its maps and records to verify burial locations. Bring your family and friends to participate in this event. Click here for the registration form. Gender Fairness Networking Luncheon October 19
Mark your calendar for Tuesday, October 19, 2010, from 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m., for the HBA Gender Fairness Committee's first Networking Luncheon for the 2010-2011 bar year.
