Renew HBA Dues for 2012-2013 Bar Year - Online Renewal Now Available
HBA dues statements for 2012-2013 have mailed. Please renew your dues promptly and notify the HBA Membership Department of any address or contact information changes. You can now conveniently renew your dues and manage your HBA membership account online.

HBA/HBF Book Drive Collecting Through September 14
The HBF/HBA Fall Book Drive is collecting through September 14, 2012, benefiting veterans, local shelters and literacy projects. Collect gently-used books for readers of all ages or consider a cash donation to purchase new books. 2013 Pictorial Roster Photo Session September 11-12
On September 11-12, plan on coming by the HBA office, 1001 Fannin Street, Suite 1300, 77002 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to have a new photo made for the 2013 Pictorial Roster at no charge. No appointment is necessary and photos take only a few minutes.
Gender Fairness Networking Luncheon September 27
The HBA Gender Fairness Committee will sponsor its next Networking Luncheon Series' presentation on September 27, from 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. There will be a panel discussion on "Human Trafficking: The Facts and Legal Realities." The moderator will be Ann Chandler, Tahirih Center and panelists will be Nirja
Aiyer, City of Houston; Ruben Perez, US Attorneys Office; Maria Trujillo, Director of Houston Rescue and Restore Coalition; and Julie Waters, Free the Captives Houston. The program has been approved for 1.5 hours MCLE credit, including 1.0 hour ethics credit.
The program will be hosted by Locke Lord LLP, 25th Floor Conference Room, 600 Travis, Houston, Texas 77002. Lunch will be provided for those who register. There is no charge for HBA members to attend this program, but you must register by Sept. 21 by emailing your contact information to Tara Shockley at taras@hba.org with Networking Luncheon in the subject line.

The 2012 Harvest Party has been set for Monday, November 12, from 7:00-10:00 p.m. at River Oaks Country Club. The Harvest Party is the main annual fundraising event for the Houston Bar Foundation. IDEA Program Needs Attorneys and Medical Professional Volunteers October 18
Medical professional volunteers are needed on Thursday, October 18, 2012 from 9:00 a.m.- 10:00 a.m. and from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. for the IDEA program, a partnership between the HBA and the Harris County medical community to educate elementary students about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. Teams of medical professionals and lawyers speak to 5th grade students about the medical and legal consequences of substance abuse on growing minds and bodies. Currently we have a need for attorneys and medical professionals to participate in the program and attend the IDEA orientation on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. at the Health Museum, 1515 Hermann Drive.
