Unaccompanied Children Seminar Educational Materials

On July 31st, the HBA joined the Harris County Attorney’s Office, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, Houston Volunteer Lawyers, and other agencies and organizations in sponsoring a training on the rights of unaccompanied children crossing the Texas border and the duties of federal, state, and local governments. Donate to Annual Fall Book Drive, Sept. 8-15.

Participate in the annual Fall Book Drive, which benefits local homeless shelters and literacy projects. The drive collects books for readers of all ages, with an emphasis on books for young readers. Coat & Diaper Drive, Oct. 6-17.

The annual Fall Coat and Warm Clothing Drive and the annual Spring Children’s Clothing and Diaper Drive will be combined this year into one drive, October 6-17. The drive will collect gently-used coats, sweaters and other clothing items for all ages, as well as unopened packages of disposable diapers. New HBA officers were introduced at the Annual Dinner Meeting at River Oaks Country Club on May 15. M. Carter Crow, partner-in-charge of the Houston office of Norton Rose Fulbright, is the new president. Crow succeeds David Chaumette of Chaumette PLLC. Attorney Ready Room to Relocate

The Houston Bar Association’s Attorney Ready Room located on the 8th floor of the Civil Courthouse at 201 Caroline has been closed for renovation that will include utilizing that space for a new family law courtroom. The Attorney Ready Room will be relocated on the 17th floor of the Civil Courthouse, but a re-opening date has not been established at this time.

Results of 2014 Judicial Candidate Qualification Questionnaire

The HBA has released the results of its 2014 Judicial Candidate Qualification Questionnaire. Before the primary in each election year, the HBA asks its members to indicate whether they feel each judicial candidate is qualified, well qualified or not qualified. E-Filing Now Mandate

District Clerk Chris Daniel would like to remind attorneys that all lawyer-submitted documents in Harris County civil and family cases now must be filed electronically. Documents must be filed via eFileTexas.gov, formerly called TexFile. The mandate, ordered by the state Supreme Court, went into effect Jan. 1. Documents submitted to eFileTexas.gov must be sent by a state-certified electronic file service provider (EFSP).
