The Federal Practice Section is committed to providing programming of interest to those in the Bar who practice in federal court or desire to learn more about federal court practice. During the 2013-2014 fiscal year, the Section has already hosted two luncheons: In October, the Section presented a program at the Coronado Club on the subject of “Best Practices in Federal Court” that featured U.S. Circuit Judge Jennifer Elrod of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and U.S. District Judge Sim Lake of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas. The Judges provided useful advice and information to federal practitioners. In January, the Section presented another program at the Coronado Club that featured Senior U.S. Circuit Judge Thomas Reavley of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Karen Brown of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas. Their topic was “Best Practices in Appeals and Bankruptcy.” The Judges shared their decades of knowledge and impressions from the bench during a spirited presentation.
The next Section luncheon program will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at the Coronado Club, starting at Noon. The Section will present long-time nationally known trial lawyers Stephen Susman and Harry Reasoner who will be speaking on ”Pros and Cons of Federal Practice.” Join the Section for what is sure to be an informative and lively program. To attend Section programs, register or inquire through Section Treasurer Michael Lee, email@example.com. The Section will also be presenting Noon programs on April 9 (featuring Senior U.S. District Judge David Hittner) and on May 1 (featuring U.S. District Judge Gray Miller).
The Section also participates in other social and service oriented projects, such as co-sponsorship in the HBA’s Annual Holiday Party for the Judiciary and the HBA’s LegalLine.
