Houston Volunteer Lawyers (the pro bono service arm of the HBA) is seeking 30 volunteer attorneys to assist with three drive-thru CDC declaration clinics in Harris County on February 27, 2021. The clinics will be a joint effort with the Harris County Precincts 1 & 2, the AFL-CIO, legal aid, and numerous other organizations to review and assist qualifying tenants to execute CDC declarations protecting them from eviction through March 31, 2021.

The events are scheduled to take place simultaneously on Saturday, February 27, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at locations still to be determined (one near Hobby Airport, one at the Jim Fontenot Annex, and one near Almeda & 610, possibly NRG). No background knowledge in landlord tenant law is required to volunteer. HVL will provide volunteers with a CDC declaration script and will have a short basic training session to review information and answer questions. Volunteers will be required to appear in person and PPE will be required and provided. Once the locations are confirmed, we will update you with the details. Note that this clinic will not provide time for individuals to ask questions about their evictions or other landlord/tenant matters. It is strictly for reviewing qualifications for the CDC declaration and assisting with electronic execution of the document.

Please email Brittany Krohn if you are interested in volunteering. We appreciate your continued support and your dedication to helping those in need during the pandemic!
