The HBA’s Lawyers for Literacy Committee is holding its 25th annual fall book drive this year. To celebrate, we want to collect 25,000 books — but we need your help!
Who can participate?
Anyone! Currently, committee members are recruiting fellow legal professionals and staff in their offices, as well as friends, family, neighbors, local businesses, and more. Donors can come from anywhere.
How do I sign up?
Confirm your participation in this year’s book drive by emailing Bonnie Simmons at email@example.com or Cara Walker at firstname.lastname@example.org, or by calling (713) 759-1133. What can be donated?
Acceptable book donations are:
- New or gently-used;
- Hardcover or paperback;
- For any age or reading level;
- Fiction or nonfiction.
Please, no magazines or manuals.
When and where can donations be collected?
You can start collecting donations now.
There are three options for submitting donations:
- Tuesday, Sept. 4 – Friday, Sept. 14, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the HBA office, 1111 Bagby Street FLB#200, Houston 77002;
- Tuesday, Sept. 4 – Friday, Sept. 14, 8:00 – 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 – 4:30 p.m. at the loading dock on the Dallas Street side of Heritage Plaza, 1111 Bagby Street, Houston 77002;
- Tuesday, Sept. 4 – Friday, Sept. 14, arrange for a committee member to pick up your donations by contacting Bonnie Simmons at email@example.com or (713) 759-1133.
Where do the donated books go after they are collected?
Book donations are sorted and then distributed to various public service organizations throughout the Houston area, including hospitals, shelters and literacy groups. For a full list of recipients from last year’s drive, click here.
