LegalLine is the HBA service program where volunteer attorneys give members of the public simple legal advice over the phone at no cost. The program will undergo the following changes effective October 2, 2019.
Beginning October 2, the program time will run from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with volunteers working a single three-hour shift. The LegalLine Committee feels this new schedule will be more convenient for volunteers, while still providing service during the busiest call time. LegalLine will still take place on the first and third Wednesdays of each month, volunteers will still report to the same location, and members of the public will still call (713) 759-1133.
The HBA is also adding 30% more phone lines to accommodate call volume. More volunteers will staff each LegalLine session. If you would like to volunteer with LegalLine, contact Christina Trevino (email@example.com) at (713) 759-1133, or click here to sign up to recruit four licensed attorneys to volunteer on behalf of your firm or group. Sessions in particular need of volunteers are Dec. 18, Feb. 19, March 4, April 1, May 6, May 20, June 3 and June 17.
LegalLine volunteers who park at Heritage Clay will receive a voucher for discounted parking during the session. Volunteers will also be provided with free refreshments.
When requested, the HBA will partner with Houston Volunteer Lawyers to provide volunteers with a CLE presentation from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., with ethics included, where volunteers can learn about and take pro bono cases.
The HBA LegalLine Committee would like to thank everyone for their patience and cooperation while these changes take place. Because of you, this program has helped countless Houston-area residents since 1985.
