U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs
The VA provides a wide range of benefits including disability, education and training, vocational rehabilitation and employment, home loan guaranty, dependent and survivor benefits, medical treatment, life insurance and burial benefits.
There are Legion posts all over the country where veterans can gather and build a community among themselves. The Legion also provides services to veterans such as help with benefits, education, health care and employment.
Veterans of Foreign Wars
VFW assists veterans who have been in overseas combat with benefits and legislative action, as well as with finding employment back at home.
Disabled American Veterans
Provides free services to veterans seeking help with disability claims, pensions, death benefits, employment and training programs. There is a transportation system to help disabled veterans get to local VA hospitals or clinics for appointments and care.
Military Order of the Purple Heart
Provides services to veterans and their families as well as promotes legislative initiatives. Not limited to those who are combat wounded.
Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America
Largest organization for veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, with over 200,000 members across the country. It seeks to provide health, employment, benefit and education resources to veterans.
