Comparing Ombuds and Mediation Services

Ombuds providers and mediators offer distinct, but similar services, which can be combined in professional practices to meet the needs of individual organizations as well as those of parties in conflict.  The one-hour program will serve as an introduction to how ombuds skills can be learned and developed, and how the services are utilized and made available.

A distinguished pioneer and recognized expert on the use of ombuds by organizations, Chuck Howard is the author of “A Practical Guide to Organizational Ombuds: How They Help People and Organizations,” published by the American Bar Association.  The guide on what ombuds programs are and how they operate follows his seminal book on the history and evolution of the process, “The Organizational Ombudsman: Origins, Roles and Operations–A Legal Guide.”
