Speakers Bureau
The Houston Bar Association provides attorneys to speak on legal topics to schools, churches, and other community groups without charge.
This program is coordinated by the Speakers Bureau Committee. For more information on this program, contact Ashley Gagnon Steininger or Christina Trevino at (713) 759-1133.
The Houston Bar Association adopted the following policy for speakers at HBA events: All HBA members, including judges and candidates for public office, can serve as speakers at HBA events and programs. There should be no active campaigning, no literature distributed, no buttons worn, essentially nothing to indicate that a member or judge is in a contested race for office, and nothing urging a favorable vote. All HBA members, including judges and judicial candidates, may serve on HBA committees.

About the Importance of Jury Service Program: The HBA created this program in response to low juror turnout in Harris County, especially in certain ZIP codes. It was designed to help increase participation and to ensure that jury pools are made up of a true cross-section of the community. The program educates high school seniors, who will soon be eligible for jury duty, about the importance of the jury system and juror participation in our American justice system. Volunteer attorneys and judges conduct interactive classroom presentations that illustrate the history and importance of our jury system, as well as statistics on Harris County juror participation. The presentations debunk myths about jury service, explain the trial process, and show students how jury deliberations actually work. The program encourages young adults to take seriously their responsibility and their right to serve on a jury and shows them how they can make a difference in their communities.
Appellate attorney Wally Kronzer, representing the Houston Bar Association, met with groups of high school students about the importance of jury service, what it entails, and why it is an essential part or maintaining civic infrastructure. #thejourneybeginshere pic.twitter.com/rpEJCRqRcp
