Best Practices in Client Engagements – from Engagement Letters to File Closure
Questions that may arise during a client engagement period often can be addressed through simple documentation at the outset and end of the representation. This program will address best practices in client engagement from initial contact, engagement letters, communications during representation, end of representation, closure letters, and file management to avert disputes and satisfy the latest Texas ethics rules. It will trace the lawyer’s ethics checkpoints from intake to file destruction (communication, scope, fees, confidentiality, conflicts, tech competence) linking each to Texas rules of ethics and recent Texas opinions. Practical engagement-letter, closure-letter, and file-retention templates show how to hard-wire these duties into daily practice and avert disputes.
1 hour of MCLE credit, including 1 hour ethics credit.
