The Houston Bar Association adopted the following policy for speakers at HBA events:
All HBA members, including judges and candidates for public office, can serve as speakers at HBA events and programs. There should be no active campaigning, no literature distributed, no buttons worn, essentially nothing to indicate that a member or judge is in a contested race for office, and nothing urging a favorable vote. All HBA members, including judges and judicial candidates, may serve on HBA committees.
The HBA offers virtual CLE seminars on Fridays at 1:00 p.m. Register for free as an HBA member, or $26 per non-member, by noon the day of the event.
See this month's webinars at hba.org/events.
The HBA presents free, on-demand CLE videos.
How to access the HBA members-only video library:
- Go to hba.org/watchCLE.
- Log in to your HBA account (or create an account).

Effective September 1, 2015, new legislation now requires a 4-hour certification course for attorneys who want to serve as guardian ad litems in the probate courts. Attorneys applicants of guardianship must also be certified. One hour of the certification course must be on alternatives to guardianship. The HBA offers a video of its "2015 Guardian Ad Litem in the Probate Courts Institute," which meets certification requirements.
